wired

I really should be sleeping right now. But given that I feel like I've just ingested a large cup of coffee I will do a little journaling ;)

I haven't written much here since my life pretty much entirely revolves around the baby these days. When I'm not taking care of the baby or sleeping I'm taking care of baby related things: calling doctors, putting away baby clothes, etc. That and writing about baby stuff and watching the occasional Buffy episode ;)

We've been doing the 1 step forward 2 steps back dance a lot. I think we're almost through with most of the prematurity related issues, but we're still not quite to the end of it yet and even good change takes a little adjusting to ;) The main remaining issue is the compromised immune system. Its hard because he seems fine and hardy, but I really don't think its worth the risk yet to take him out in public more than necessary. Which means that rarely leave the house for anything other than doctor's appointments or occasionally to pick things up at the store.

The doctor I'm seeing now works in the same center as the NICU, and my eyes started tearing up just seeing the building again. Three months of hospital time was enough, thank you ;)

My most exciting news for the day is that I cut six inches off my hair ;) Okay... perhaps the context that its been almost a year since I last cut it makes it just a little bit exciting? ;) Although the hair dressers always think otherwise, I think I'm more into super long and a little stringy on the ends than short and super healthy ;) But I do like healthy, and more importantly, healthy means that it doesn't snarl around the baby's fingers and is easy to pull away when he grabs it ;)

My plan is to start focusing more on my own life once the baby has been home for four months, which marks the end of the red alert compromised immune system time. Half way there, and this last month has already been way way easier than the previous four.
